Changing World

Well, you know the world is a changin' a little bit at a time when the case behind the cashier at London Drugs that used to hold cigarettes is now holding Pokemon cards. Then there's this article. The Navy has a style guide for tattoos! Guess those "be all you can be" ads don't include body art.

I think they're making a mistake. Letting the asshole who'd actually tattoo him/herself with something extremist is a type of public service. How often are you in the situation where a prick actually raises his hand and screams "I'm intolerant"!?

HTML on the Brain

The last couple months I've done so much HTML it not only flows out of my finger tips I'm probably <perspiring> it. My web site just got a make-over. Finally fixed the navigation. It sucked very badly, before. Working on a web site for non-profit, too. Slowly starting to implement CSS, but I'm not ready to give up my <table>s!

Ok, for those of you who haven't asked (yet), I've been to Mickey D's once since my last posting. Made a big pot of vegi chilli from once of my Christmas cookbooks. It's lasting me days. Yesterday and today the menu was chilli dogs. A couple of days ago it was chilli fries. I'm having a craving for corn muffins......

Danger Mundane Dragon, Danger!

It's only been 10 days, but what a mixed bag 2003 has been. The winter term class prognosis is very good. Good instructors. The course with the most new material has an instructor whose stated goal is not to overwhelm us with work. The other course has a lot of material I've done in slightly different forms, so whopping gobs of it will be a breeze. Yeah! Have been using my new cooking utensils and cookbooks. Love the cooking/eating part, lord do I need a dish washer.

Where's the danger? McDonalds has sent out 2-for-1 coupons. I actually like McDonalds food, though it certainly does bad things to me. In part it's comfort food. McDonalds used to be a special night out when I was a kid. Listen, you just had to be a kid in the 60's to understand that. With a McDonalds a block away coupons are a major temptation. Unfortunately I've already succumb ... more than once ... damn-it. It's usually self-solving though. Eat too much McDonalds, feel bad, trash coupons.

I've also been fighting procrastination this week. Arg. The human psyche is so freakin convoluted. My procrastination is - as far as I've been able to figure out - a symptom of other shit happening in my life. Trouble is, it isn't always the same shit, so figuring out the real issue is sometimes impossible till it's gone away. which is often too late. I want an owner's manual.

In spite of the procrastination I got my fist job application in for 2003. Go me! Don't think I stand a chance for an interview but there wasn't much else out there so what the hell.

Two blog entries for January, go me again!

Top o' the New Year, to ya!

Farewell 2002. New Years was a blast, played a charades on steroids type game with friends and strangers, one of whom was highly competitive. Actually, the evening started with a sushi feast and good company. No, wait! New Year's eve day started when I discovered my mark for the Java network programming course I took: 97% - Woo-Who!!!! A most auspicious way to transition years. Welcome 2003.

It was a very abbreviated Christmas with the family. Around 10:30/11:00am I looked at the weather and road reports and decided, "Time to go." The news the following day validated the decision. Traffic pandemonium on the Coquihalla and sections of Highway 1. I miss the hot tub. I mist trading flaming sheep strikes and donkey drops with my niece and nephew playing World Worm Party. And I'm disappointed my sister and I didn't make it out to a cafe for our traditional coffee. Guess I'll just have to go back. Silly people keep unlocking the door and letting me in.

I may well have stuck my foot in it, this term. Emboldened by the great mark and realizing that I'm about just about half way to a Java Certificate at BCIT, I decided to take two courses this term. Actually, I'm also a little inspired by my sister, who has been a half to three quarter course load while raising kids and looking after a house. Time to be a little less of a slug!
