White Dwarf Books

The book stack was down to zero so it was time for a book fix. This means a trip to White Dwarf books. White Dwarf is the best source of crack Science Fiction and Fantasy books in Vancouver. Hands down. No argument.

White Dwarf Books is an independent bookstore in Kitsilano. Run by a husband and wife team, it's been a fixture in Vancouver since 1978. When I first started going to White Dwarf, Science Fiction/Fantasy was underserved in mainstream bookstores. The local Coles and W.H. Smith of the day had maybe two racks and stocked authors I wasn't interested in. White Dwarf books literally had everything. It was manna.

These days Chapters/Indigo have a far greater selection, but it still doesn't match White Dwarf and their staff don't begin to compare to Jill and her extensive knowledge. Not only does she follow who's releasing what and when, but she actually reads the genre! There's also the pleasure of meeting the store's basset hound mascot. And like any well run small business, regular customers get remembered.

If you read Science Fiction and Fantasy, do yourself a favour and visit White Dwarf. Like Google, just the goods without the bumf.

A Day at the Races?

This has nothing to do with dragons or brains. It may have a link to farts, depending on what you eat or drink before the race:

Given the quality of your average process cheese slice, this might be a better use than eating them.

Goofin' Around

Happy New Year and Gung Hey Fat Choi. It's been a while since the last post.

Attended the Northern Voice blogging conference last Saturday. Most excellent. After the conference it seemed like time to make a new post. :-)

The Northern Voice website has some great links to people who've posted conference notes, pictures and other content. If you're at all interested in blogging, it's worth a look.

It's been a long time since I checked out the features at Blogger/Blogspot, so I've been playing around. Was getting tired of the old format, this is better.
