A January Grab Bag

Best of the New Year, everyone.

The Vancouver winter is being a bastard this year. Way too much rain, and this year it had the temerity to snow. Damn, the only reason I put up with the rain is because it isn't snow. In my opinion snow belongs on the mountains. Rain or snow, it's been way too gray.

I've been down the last couple of weeks and suspect it's the lack of sun light. Least wise, this little bit of sun we got today helped; and a really nice day tends to flip my mood to the good side. During the long, rainy stretches I do have small bursts of enthusiasm amongst the self-destructive procrastination, but I all I can say is: Blah!

Life continues, whinging or not.

Wireless networks and notebook computers are the manna of convenience. It doesn't have to be a Mac notebook (be quiet, Dolores!), though I'm really happy with mine. Being able to work from the couch, kitchen table, favorite chair or desk - sometimes one right after the other - is absolutely wonderful. I've started reading my "regular" web sites from the kitchen table with my morning coffee and, when I'm really organized, breakfast.

I'd go so far to say that if you're not playing serious games don't bother with a desktop computer. The only conundrum is this. If you're going to use a notebook at home as a desktop replacement, go for a big screen. If you're going to carry it around, go for a small screen. If you're going to do both, you have to decide between two different kinds of convenience. Life's a bitch.

I've been reading a very interesting blog, lately. It's written by an American soldier in Iraq. Even when I disagree with him - he seems to like Dubwa - it's a good read.

This is my last week of afternoon shift - yeah. Somehow it seems like I have more personal time on graveyards. I get my evenings back, too. Besides, with all the gray days we've had, it's not like there's a big difference between days and nights, anyway.
